“Sharepoint. It just happened.”
So said one participant, as we kicked off the latest SharePoint Fundamentals webinar.
We always like to start with that age-old question – why are we here? It’s important to understand what everyone hopes to get out of the session and the experiences we can share.
This participant nailed it, for everyone. Last year, organisations switched to digital and remote working almost overnight. Many relied on Microsoft Teams to keep everyone connected. Teams includes SharePoint behind the scenes, to support document sharing and collaboration.
That means a lot of records managers are suddenly faced with a new information repository in their ecosystem. If your organisation relies on an Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS), you might not otherwise have much experience using SharePoint.
Most participants said they felt unsure about how SharePoint works and how it all fits together. It can be daunting when it feels like you’re the only one.
If you’re new to SharePoint and need to know the basics, then this webinar is for you. We openly ask questions and share experience as a group. It’s “Chatham House Rules” (and not recorded) so everyone can participate freely.
In this (free!) session, we start with a brief recap of the principles of records management and then run through the following topics:
- Architecture Overview
- Teams Sites and Communication sites
- Groups and Sites
- Document Libraries
- SharePoint Lists and Pages.
The goal is to get a sense of the functions, features and limitations of SharePoint. Although the architecture might be different than other systems you’ve used – the same records management requirements apply.
Those who joined the webinar were looking for a place to start. They now understand the fundamentals and can make a plan for further training.
If you didn’t make it today, keep an eye on the schedule and be sure to join us next time!
